Welcome to PhotoVoyance!

Clearly, it's a made-up word, and is used to emphasize the concept of taking photos with vision, and clarity. Looking at our world through a lens can awaken an awareness of the poignancy of life's moments. This blog will address both vision, and techniques that may facilitate memorable captures.

Not only does capturing images make us slow down, and see the aphids on the rose petals, but also gives us a frame of reference as we look back over images to recall, and somehow, see the whole picture of our lives.

My love of photography goes back to my 20's when I took a photo class, and started paying attention to light, and the small things in life. My goal is to improve my craft, and my seeing.

All subjects can be interesting - though people are the most fascinating due to the many facets each of us has that can change in an instant.

Thanks for visiting!

Swing dancing: watch those moves, and the smiles

It's the music that get to you first of all - the insistant beat that seems to call to tribal patterns - as the couples fit into each other's  rhythms. There is seriousness, and sheer joy. The dance  seems to reflect life in all it's wild cavoting, and recklessness, as well as order, and beauty.

Oh, there is awardness, all right - bottoms sticking out too much, shoulders hunched, arms flying, and, there is grace, and poetry in the moves too.

It's an unpretentious set of moves that resemble, but don't duplicate any one else's.  It's about individualism, freedom, joy, and aerobic movement that has nothing to do with the mindless treadmill.

Swing dancing has been revived from the jazz era, and the young are loving it.
