Swing dancing: watch those moves, and the smiles

It's the music that get to you first of all - the insistant beat that seems to call to tribal patterns - as the couples fit into each other's  rhythms. There is seriousness, and sheer joy. The dance  seems to reflect life in all it's wild cavoting, and recklessness, as well as order, and beauty.

Oh, there is awardness, all right - bottoms sticking out too much, shoulders hunched, arms flying, and, there is grace, and poetry in the moves too.

It's an unpretentious set of moves that resemble, but don't duplicate any one else's.  It's about individualism, freedom, joy, and aerobic movement that has nothing to do with the mindless treadmill.

Swing dancing has been revived from the jazz era, and the young are loving it.
